Protecting Kids in the Age of AI

Ida believes California should lead on responsible AI by encouraging innovation while protecting kids from harmful online content, safeguarding their personal information, and giving parents more control over how these powerful technologies are used.

Parents across the district are trying to keep up with technology that is changing faster than the rules meant to protect their children. Ida supports protecting children from high-risk artificial intelligence systems, including AI chatbots, and holding social media companies accountable when their platforms harm young people. She also believes new technology has to answer to the communities it affects, which means strong safeguards on data centers so they do not threaten local water, energy, or public health. Families should be able to trust that the tools their children use are safe, and Ida will work to make sure California's laws keep pace.
