Jeff Gonzalez puts Trump and MAGA Republicans ahead of working families in our communities.

Summary

District-wide communications - Voters across the district need to see and hear negative communications on broadcast, radio, streaming and digital about Jeff Gonzalez’s alignment with Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans and his record of making life more expensive for working families:

  • Jeff Gonzalez sides with Trump and MAGA Republicans while local families struggle with rising costs. Gonzalez supports Trump’s tariffs and other MAGA policies that are driving up costs, and in Sacramento he has opposed efforts to make housing more affordable and sided with large corporations over working families. From housing and utilities to healthcare, gas and groceries, Gonzalez is making it harder for families in our communities to get ahead.

Targeted mail and digital communications – especially to Democrats, Democratic primary voters, liberal Democrats, Latina women and college-educated Latinas, and white voters under 55 - should reinforce this broader argument while focusing on the vulnerabilities that resonate most with key audiences:

  • (MAGA/ICE) Jeff Gonzalez is supported by MAGA Republicans and won’t stand up to Donald Trump’s reckless ICE raids that have hurt local businesses, trampled on our civil liberties and are tearing immigrant families apart. He even turned his back on farmworkers and voted against making it easier to build critically needed housing for them while also allowing U.S. citizens to be detained or deported.

  • NPP voters: Focus on Gonzalez’s failure to protect access to healthcare in rural communities, votes that increase utility costs, and his willingness to side with powerful corporations rather than working families. His questionable business practices can also reinforce a broader argument that Gonzalez looks out for himself and special interests instead of the district.

  • (HEALTHCARE) Gonzalez failed to stand up for the healthcare needs of our rural communities, including regulations protecting us from toxins from the Salton Sea. And despite being one of the lowest income districts in the state, and where health care costs acutely impact the most vulnerable in our communities, Gonzalez refused to fund distressed rural hospitals and clinics that were forced to close.  He also voted against emergency funding to keep California's Medi-Cal program running and refused to support stronger oversight of pharmacy benefit managers, the powerful healthcare middlemen that drive up prescription drug costs.

  • White voters and Democratic Men under 55: Emphasize Gonzalez’s opposition to affordable housing and his failure to stand up for women and victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, supplemented by his questionable business record.

    • (HOUSING) California is facing a crushing housing crisis, but Jeff Gonzalez repeatedly opposed common-sense solutions to make housing more affordable. Gonzalez voted against legislation to expand affordable housing, increase tax credits to build more low-income housing, and make it easier to build new homes near public transit, making it even harder for working families to find a home they can afford.

    • (WOMEN/VICTIMS) Gonzalez failed women and victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. He refused to support critical funding for forensic medical exams that help victims get the care they need, preserving critical evidence, and bringing violent offenders to justice. And he repeatedly refused to support legislation protecting reproductive healthcare and the right to an abortion.
